About Spectr
Every week there's a new AI tool, a new automation platform, a new vendor promising to transform your firm. Most of it is noise. Spectr exists to cut through it and show you what actually works.
Our Story
If you're a firm owner, you already know the landscape is overwhelming. New tools every month. Vendors pitching "AI-powered" everything. Webinars that promise the future but leave you with nothing you can actually use on Monday morning. Most of what's out there is built to sell, not to solve.
We wanted to do something different. Instead of selling a tool and walking away, we embed ourselves inside the firm. We teach the people, document the processes, and build automations around the way your firm actually works. The goal was never to be another vendor on the stack. It was to be the partner who makes AI genuinely useful.
Spectr was founded on a simple belief: AI only pays off when it's built around your people, and it only stays paying off when someone keeps up with how fast it changes. Some firms want that capability in-house, so we train their team and hand it over. Others want it handled, so we stay on as their AI department. Either way, you get people in your corner who live on the forefront of AI so you don't have to.
What Drives Us
What we actually care about, and what you'll see in everything we do.
Leadership
The person behind Spectr's mission to make every accounting firm AI-ready.
John Ashworth spent years in education before starting Spectr, first in the classroom, then on the sideline as a basketball coach. That background shaped everything about how he approaches this work. The best coaches don't just run drills. They build teams that understand the game well enough to adapt, compete, and win - long after the coach walks off the floor.
He started Spectr because accounting firm owners deserved a straight answer about AI: what's worth it, what isn't, and how to actually make it stick. Firms that get this right now don't just run better, they pull ahead of competitors who are still figuring it out.
The goal has never been to make firms dependent on a consultant. It's to help them understand what they're building and own it themselves.
